Lamp pull = another lil beat

Karen told me I needed to move beyond the kitchen, so I went into the next room and found a lamp. I loved the sound of the lamp’s chain pull, so I sampled it into GarageBand on my phone and made

  • a kick,
  • two snare layers,
  • two hats,
  • two bass layers,
  • a pad synth and
  • an arpeggiating synth.

Most of the pitched sounds, I made by looping an extremely short segment of the sample. But the pull itself had a bit of a pitch, roughly the flavor of a low marimba, so that one bass layer is a straight sample playback plus some adjustments to the amplitude envelope.

Get all of those sounds and the beat, for free, wrapped up all nice in a GarageBand for iPhone project by clicking the big button above. You can also check out my Skillshare class on iPhone sampling, in which I sampled a bunch of other things in my kitchen and turned them into playable instruments just using GarageBand.

Come on back every week for new downloads containing 2 components each: an original, unprocessed recording of some non-musical thing; and a GarageBand for iOS project containing the Sampler instrument(s) that I’ve made with that recording.
